Kerry Wahlen and Bill Hart accepting award

Goldenwest Receives Partners In Education Award

Ogden, UT: April 28, 2016 – Goldenwest Credit Union was honored with the Partners In Education Award this morning at an event co-hosted by the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce, Weber School District and Ogden School District. Goldenwest Chairman Bill Hart and President/CEO Kerry Wahlen accepted the award on behalf of the Credit Union.

Goldenwest was nominated for the award in the Elementary Education category by Weber School District for its ongoing support of public education through their Annual 5K For Schools fundraising event.

During the award presentation, Partners In Education Committee Chair Zac Williams shared with the large gathering of business, civic and education leaders a brief history and overview of the Goldenwest 5K For Schools.

In the year 2000, Goldenwest teamed up with H. Guy Child Elementary School to help with a local 5K fundraiser in conjunction with the grand opening of their new corporate office in South Ogden. The race was a success and had a tremendous amount of community support. With that in mind, Goldenwest decided to continue the race and over the past 16 years the race has evolved and expanded from one elementary school to eleven schools in the Bonneville cone. Each year, Goldenwest willingly gives hundreds of employee hours and thousands of dollars in behalf of students. Goldenwest donates 100 percent of the registration fees and matches the entry fee for every participant who crosses the finish line, providing valuable funds for the schools. Each year Goldenwest donates an estimated $20,000 back to the schools, with an additional $10,000 in 5K expenses covered completely by the Credit Union. Over the past 16 years over $450,000 has been donated to schools with cash and in kind donations from Goldenwest Credit Union to the Bonneville cone.
