Credit Union Advocacy Update

May 16, 2025

I’m pleased to share some positive news regarding our efforts in the “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” initiative. The latest federal tax legislation being discussed in Washington, D.C. does not include provisions to tax credit unions, which is a significant win for all of us.

This success is a direct result of the grassroots advocacy from credit union members like YOU across the country. By raising our voices together, we’ve helped ensure lawmakers understand the important role credit unions play in supporting their communities. Thanks to your involvement, we’ve successfully protected our tax-exempt status, which allows us to continue offering low fees, competitive rates, and free services that benefit our members.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to get involved—whether by contacting your U.S. Representatives, staying informed, or sharing our message. Your efforts truly made a difference, and together, we’ve preserved the credit union model that makes Goldenwest such a trusted, member-centric institution.

However, the work isn’t done yet. Congress continues to work on tax reform and budget legislation, and it’s important that we stay engaged. I encourage you to visit gwcu.org/advocate to learn how you can contact your elected officials. It only takes a few minutes, and every voice makes a difference.

Let’s keep this momentum going. Together, we’ll continue to protect the not-for-profit model that benefits us all. Thank you for your continued support as we work to build a stronger future for Goldenwest and its members.
