On May 13, 2016, we marked the 80th anniversary of the formation of Goldenwest Credit Union. Our modest beginnings included 25-cent membership fees and a meager $10.50 in assets. Today, we are among the strongest credit unions in the nation.

As we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Credit Union this year, I’ve found myself studying our history. The Credit Union was founded on May 13, 1936 in the midst of the Great Depression by employees of the Ogden Railway and Depot Company.

Julie and I use our Goldenwest Rewards credit card account to pay for everything. Even small, daily purchases are made with the credit card. We’ve been using the credit card as our primary purchase card for more than 15 years, and encourage our grown children to do the same for a number of reasons:

Goldenwest Credit Union had a banner year in 2015 marked with substantial growth and notable achievements. Our charge to operate a fiscally-sound credit union is a stewardship we take most seriously. We are always looking ahead at the future needs of our membership. As such, we have made significant investments in our branch network, member support departments and technological development.

The only payment card I carry is The Aggie Card, which is the USU Credit Union branded Visa Rewards Card. I use it all the time to earn Extra Awards points. I’ve even set-up our recurring...

I’m excited to share the news that Goldenwest will give back $1.2 million to members with a bonus dividend on December 31st! This is the largest bonus dividend paid in Goldenwest history, and the 12th consecutive year we have paid a bonus dividend to members.

I recently made my first Apple Pay purchase at the pharmacy inside our neighborhood grocery store. Until that moment, I thought nothing could be easier than swiping my Visa card to make a purchase.
