Give Your Checking Account a Financial Checkup
Your checking account plays a large role in your everyday financial wellness. It’s where you receive your income with direct deposit, pay bills, and make purchases.
Spending a few minutes to review your account can help you ensure your checking account meets your needs, identify opportunities to save money, and stay vigilant for potential fraud.
Have You Reviewed Your Recent Transactions?
Check your account history and previous eStatements for unfamiliar purchases, duplicate charges, unexpected fees, or spending patterns that you would like to change.
If you do not recognize a transaction, contact Goldenwest at 1-800-283-4550. If you believe the transaction involved your Visa card, use Card Controls in the mobile app to effectively freeze the affected card.
Are You Paying for Services You No Longer Use?
Review all of your subscriptions, memberships, automatic payments, and free trials. If there are any services you no longer use, cancel them, and confirm that you will not be charged the following month.
Are Your Account eAlerts Set Up?
Check if your Goldenwest eAlerts are set up to keep you informed about activity on your account. You can receive notifications about deposits, withdrawals, balance summaries, Visa purchases, insufficient funds, transactions, and check clearances.
If you aren’t enrolled in eAlerts, registration is simple:
1. Log into online banking or the mobile app.
2. For online banking, select the "More" tab on the top right side of your dashboard.
3. For the mobile app, select the "More" tab at the bottom right side of your dashboard, and select "More" from the menu.
4. Choose "Alerts."
5. Select your desired eAlerts and click "Save."
Goldenwest eAlerts are free to members and may be turned on or off at any time.
Are Your Deposits and Automatic Transfers Up to Date?
Confirm that your income is going to the correct account, or talk to your employer about setting up direct deposit for your paychecks.
Review your automatic transfers and consider scheduling transfers from your checking account to your savings to make it part of your routine. Review your scheduled payments to ensure they are paid on time or after your direct deposit.
Check for any paper checks you have not deposited yet, and deposit them using Mobile Check Deposit. This can be done quickly, anywhere, at any time, with our secure system within the Goldenwest app.
Is Your Account Information Current?
Confirm that your phone number, email address, mailing address, and digital banking information are up to date.
Does Your Checking Account Still Meet Your Needs?
Your financial needs can change over time, but so can your checking account. Consider whether your checking account aligns with your spending habits and preferred benefits.
Review the services available with your account, such as Smart Money for members ages 13-25, Golden Rewards, and Round Up Rewards, to ensure you are utilizing all of its benefits.
Financial wellness starts with understanding and making the most of your accounts. If you have any questions, visit a local Goldenwest Credit Union or call the Member Contact Center at 801-621-4550.
