Goldenwest Partners with USU Athletics to Preserve Merlin Olsen Field

LOGAN, UT: September 25, 2026 – Goldenwest Credit Union and Utah State University Athletics today announced a new sponsorship of Merlin Olsen Field, preserving the name of one of the most accomplished and beloved figures in Aggie history.

The partnership will ensure that the football field continues to bear Olsen’s name and honor his extraordinary legacy. A Utah State football standout and two-time All-American, Olsen won the Outland Trophy in 1961 before beginning a Hall of Fame professional football career. His influence extended well beyond athletics through his service to Utah State and his enduring connection with the Aggie community.

“Utah State Athletics is excited to continue our partnership with Goldenwest, and their interest in preserving Merlin Olsen Field was an important factor in our agreement,” said Utah State Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker. “With this agreement, former, current and future Aggies will continue to share memories at Merlin Olsen Field, preserved by Goldenwest Credit Union.”

Goldenwest’s relationship with Utah State spans generations. USU Credit Union was founded on the Utah State campus in 1957 by two economics professors who wanted to provide trusted and affordable financial services for university employees. Following its merger with Goldenwest in 2014, USU Credit Union retained its name and identity and continues to operate as a division of Goldenwest throughout Cache Valley.

Since the merger, Goldenwest has continued to invest in the university community by supporting students, faculty, staff, alumni and Utah State Athletics. The Merlin Olsen Field sponsorship reflects that commitment while honoring the heritage and roots of USU Credit Union.
