David Butterfield

OGDEN, UT: December 18, 2013 – David Butterfield was recently named Regional President for USU Credit Union, a division of Goldenwest. USU Credit Union joined forces with Goldenwest Credit Union in a strategic merger that became effective on October 1, 2013. Prior to accepting the position of Regional President, Butterfield served as USU Credit Union’s Chief Executive Officer and President.

A long-time resident of Cache Valley and graduate of Utah State University, Butterfield holds a strong affinity for the members and community served by USU Credit Union. He believes the merger with Goldenwest will better serve the needs and interests of members across the entire organization.

“This merger is a game-changer for our credit union,” stated Butterfield. “With the resources provided to us by Goldenwest, we can give our members access to a vast branch network, enhanced products and services, and the latest technological advances in the financial services industry. Likewise, we can offer Goldenwest members access to five prime branch locations in Cache and Box Elder counties.”

Butterfield brings more than 20 years of leadership and management experience to the position. His USU Credit Union career began in 2004, serving first as the Sales and Marketing Director before transitioning to the Chief Marketing Officer and then CEO/President. In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University, Butterfield received a Masters of Business Administration degree from Brigham Young University. He also earned the Certified Senior Executive designation from the CUES Center for Applied Executive Management.

“David is an incredible asset to our organization,” added Kerry H. Wahlen, Goldenwest Credit Union President/CEO. “He brings incredible leadership talents and management skills to guide the USU Credit Union division through their current transition and into a new era of growth.”

For more than a decade, Butterfield has been actively engaged in many community and civic activities. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for several organizations, including: Strata; Cache Chamber of Commerce; American West Heritage Center; and, USU Advanced Weather Systems Laboratory. He served as an elected Representative in the State Legislature for two years beginning in January 2011, as well as the Chairman for the Cache County Republican Party from 2005-2008.
